Tomos takes gold at award ceremony

A PUPIL from Amman Valley Comprehensive was among some of the country’s brightest young people who visited The National Pool in Swansea and were awarded medals by paralympic legend, David Roberts, for their work on the Inspire-Aspire programme.

Tomos Jones won top prize and a gold medal at the event after choosing Olympic sprint ace Usain Bolt as an inspirational figure as part of his work on the programme.

“Usain Bolt inspires me because of all the effort he puts into his sprinting, the determination he has to do his best at all times and the inspiration he gives to people when he shows that your best is only the beginning of your achievements that are to come,” said Tomos.

“I have learnt more about what my goals are in life and my feelings for wanting to achieve my best in life.”

Amman Valley was well represented at the prestigious event with two other students picking up medals.

Ffion Jones won first prize in the bronze category and Megan Lewis was awarded a bronze medal for third prize.

The Inspire-AspireAwards programme reached 35,000 young people this year by using the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the character qualities of Olympians to inspire young people to set personal goals and to develop future aspirations.
