THE county's schoolchildren are preparing to go bananas as part of Fairtrade Fortnight.
Carmarthenshire County Council's catering services department is ordering in 4,300 Fairtrade bananas to join in with a UK and world record banana-eating attempt on March 6.
Children in schools across the county will get their lips around a variety of banana dishes which will be served up in the dinner halls by school cooks.
As well as the banana-eating record attempt, canteen staff will also serve themed menus throughout the fortnight, which starts on Monday, February 23.
On the menus are a selection of Fairtrade produce ranging from Fairtrade orange juice to vegetable bolognaise, home made chocolate cookies to mashed potato and baked beans.
Carmarthenshire's Catering Services Manager Sandra Weigel said: "The banana-eating record attempt may sound like just a bit of fun, but actually the health benefits of eating bananas and other healthy food produce is what really encourages us to take part."
