BRYNAMMAN Rugby Club has been awarded almost £1,000 in order to help raise more funds for good cases in the area.

The money has been granted to the rugby club as part of the Persimmon Homes' Community Champions scheme.

Housebuilders, Persimmon Homes, have given £900 to Brynamman RFC which will go towards its popular rubber duck race, which in turn raises money for worthy causes.

Each month the builder donates up to £2,000 to community groups within the operating area of its West Wales office in Penllergaer.

As well as the money for Brynamman RFC, £1,000 has been awared to Action for Children's Pembrokeshire Young Carers who provide respite breaks for children with caring responsiblities.

This also happens across Persimmon’s other 29 operating areas, meaning up to £60,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £720,000 a year, and more than £2million since the scheme started back in 2015.

A spokesman for Brynamman RFC, said: “We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes for this generous donation.

“We are holding a duck race on June 30 on the River Amman, which will see around 2,000 rubber ducks make the challenging journey downstream in a race to the finish.

“The race will raise money for Jenesha’s Smile Fund, Clwb Pysgota Gwter Fawr and Brynamman.

“It’s fantastic that Persimmon Homes has supported our event in this way.”

Nina Rice, of Action for Children’s Pembrokeshire Young Carers, said: “We support children, some as young as eight, who may care for a family member, either emotionally or physically.

“Young carers often feel different from their friends and miss out on many childhood opportunities.

“We provide services and opportunities to reduce the burden of caring by offering them a break from their responsibilities and the chance to talk to someone.

“This generous donation is a huge help.”

Persimmon Homes is currently very active in South Wales with developments in Pembroke, Narberth, Pontarddulais, Cross Hands, Llanelli, Swansea and Bridgend.

Sharon Bouhali, sales director at Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “We are delighted to be able to help these two good causes with this money.

“Giving back to the communities in which we build is right at the heart of the Persimmon Homes ethos, and Community Champions is just one way in which we do that.”
