Girlguiding groups in Ammanford are on the hunt for a new home.

Two Brownies groups, one Guides group and a Rainbows group, which are attended by between 80 and 100 local girls, were forced to leave their hall on Manor Road around three years ago due to the building not being fit for purpose.

The temporary building was donated to the group by TRJ LTD with a life expectancy of five to 10 years, and 17 years later the floor is collapsing and it is too dangerous to use.

Ammanford Brownies moved to Pantyffynnon Social Club around three years ago and are now on the look out to find a new home where they can fully participate in Girlguiding activities.

The earliest record of Girlguiding in Ammanford dates back to 1927, and the leader of the groups is now appealing for the community to help them find a suitable venue.

Brown owl Anne Bishop, who has been involved with the group for 27 years, said: “We are currently all meeting separately at different venues across the town.

“The Second Ammanford Brownies are currently meeting in Betws and Rainbows meet at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman.

“A room which we can use with space to store our equipment will be ideal.

“Pantyffynnon Social Club have been really good to us and we really appreciate them letting us use their upstairs room.

“There is currently no Guides group in Ammanford due to there not being a suitable meeting place.”

Anne has been around different buildings and venues across the town for the last 12 months but hasn’t had any luck due to venues charging too much and halls being fully booked.

“Our dream situation would to return to Manor Road, but with a lack of funding we cannot refurbish the cabin,” added Anne.

“The girls are missing out as we are not able to teach them life skills such as cookery and we can’t do sleepovers which is what Girlguiding is all about.

“We also need to find a venue in Ammanford as there are other Girlguiding groups in the surrounding area.”
