A building control officer from Ammanford will be spending his honeymoon playing rugby in the World Deaf 7s championships.

After saying ‘I do’ Shaun Miles will jet off to Sydney, Australia in April after being selected to play for the Welsh team.

The 29-year-old will also play in a 15s test match against Australia during the tour in April – just two weeks after marrying is fiancée, Catrin.

Shaun currently plays for Llandovery RFC and has previously played for Ammanford, Llanelli and Neath RFC.

One of three siblings, Shaun was left partially deaf in his right ear following complications from a severe infection as a young child.

He said: “I’m thrilled and honoured to have been selected to represent my country in the World Deaf 7s championships.

"The experience I’ll gain from taking part will be invaluable and I’m looking forward to having a great time.”

The bridegroom to be is a former pupil of Amman Valley Comprehensive School and is currently undertaking a part time degree in construction management & technology at the Ammanford campus, Coleg Sir Gar.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member for public protection, Cllr Philip Hughes said: “This is wonderful news and is testament to Shaun’s sterling efforts in the Welsh rugby premiership for Llandovery.”
