TWO childhood friends finally met again after not seeing each other for 64 years.

Maureen O'Brian (née Baughan) and Ellen Davies attended Tumble Primary School together in the late 1940s.

Maureen had moved from London during the Second World War.

She loved Tumble and her school friends so much that she didn't go back after the war ended.

The two friends kept in contact until they were 15 years old but sadly lost touch when Maureen went to live with her sister in Cheltenham.

It was here that Maureen met an American man, who she went on to marry and move to the States with.

"The last time we saw each other was on a trip to Porthcawl with we were 15.

"It had been 64 years since that day," Ellen said.

Ellen managed to get Maureen's contact details from another school friend, and wrote to her in America.

"I was delighted when she got in touch, and she said she would be coming over to visit soon.

"Naturally, I offered for her to come and stay

80-year-old Maureen flew all the way from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to London, before making her way to Ellen in Tumble.

"She was only supposed to stay for a few days," Ellen said.

"But she ended up staying for two weeks.

"It was fabulous to see her and reminisce about our school days.

"She remembers every person, teacher and even caretaker.

"We didn't stop chatting the whole time she was here.

"It was just wonderful."

Maureen even remembers the Welsh songs she and Ellen would sing in school.

"Of course she has an American twang now, but she remembers more of them than me," Ellen said.

"She sits on her porch in America now singing away.

"She's never forgotten her roots."
