It’s fair to that most wedding guests don’t have knuckles as white as the bride’s dress, but this was certainly the case for a couple of childhood sweet hearts from Llandybie.

Tom and Rebecca Bishop got married at Oakwood Park in June this year as part of E4 television series Don’t Tell the Bride.

The duo met in school but fell into each other’s arms 10 years later through their love of surfing.

While the mother-of-one’s dream wedding involved a castle and thrones, self-employed carpenter Tom saw the couple take their vows in a rather different location to pay tribute to his late dad’s love for rollercoasters.

Mental health worker and counsellor Rebecca, 30, said: “We were up at 4am to film. It was soaking wet so all our makeup was ruined. Most of the guests ended up going around Oakwood on the rides not knowing that there was a second venue.

“When we pulled up to Oakwood I knew that it was about his dad so I was just so happy that Tom got to incorporate him into the day.”

The programme also saw adrenaline-junkie Tom and his best man take to Swansea for the all-important wedding dress, with a budget of £14,000 for the whole event.

“Both my parents were really excited but when it started to get real my mum didn’t really get it. She kept on saying your dress is lovely, but I had to keep explaining to her that Tom would be picking the real dress,” said Rebecca.

“My mum was excited but also nervous to see what I had planned,” Added Tom, 29.

Throughout the episode which was aired last week, viewers saw the plans for the big day have a rocky start with the bride-to-be and her bridesmaids left to pay for their own meal during her hen party in Cardiff, while Tom’s stag party headed on a weekend of coasteering.

There were plenty of worried expressions from Rebecca as she left total control to her disorganised other half, but would the couple advise other couples to follow them but getting married in front of the cameras.

Tom said: “You need to make sure you understand what you are about to undertake. There is a reason people don’t get married in three weeks.

“People were laughing at us when were asking for things for the big day then saying we needed them without three weeks.

“In regards to the filming, things quickly become weird when you have to do the same thing four times in a row.”

Rebecca added: “You have to be really sure that you can give up everything, wear a dress you don’t want and not see your partner for three weeks.

“This is real and I think it’s important to really know that it’s not a stress-free time of it.”
