A GROUP of 30 parents and friends of Encore stage school have teamed up to run Cardiff Half Marathon in memory of a former dance teacher.

Rebecca Evans, originally from Penygroes, was killed in an accident on the M4 near Port Talbot on November 29 last year.

Rebecca was eight months pregnant and her unborn daughter Cari also died.

Her partner Alex and their two year old son were also in the car, and whilst Alex was unhurt Cian was badly injured and was flown by Air Ambulance to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

Before her passing, Rebecca was part of Encore for three years teaching aspiring children and youngsters all the skills they need for a career on stage or screen.

Team Encore #ErCofAmBecca are now set to run the course this Sunday, October 1 to raise vital funds for Wales Air Ambulance in memory of Becca.

Encore Principal Elin Murphy said: “Some members of our team have faced the Ironman and are keen runners, but a majority are new runners.

“One of the parents has signed up for personal training ahead of the event, which shows the excellent commitment.

“It is going to be an emotional day for us all, but I have said we’ve got to remember why we are doing this and we’ll get through it.”

“The charity do not receive direct funding and it is not until something happens close to home that you realise how important their service is.”

The group has already raised over £13,000 for the charity since New Year’s Eve last year.
