TWO Ammanford ladies are taking on a series of trekking challenges to raise funds for Guide Dogs and The Prince’s Trust.

Lisa Chan will be challenging herself to the ‘Trekathon’ this year, joined by friend Zena Cooper.

Lisa will start off with her Iceland Lava Trek in August, which entails her weaving through vast steaming lava fields and camping in some of Europe’s most spectacular and unusual terrain.

She will then be joined by good friend Zena for the London Marathon Walk in September.

Lisa and Zena, with the assistance of Zena’s guide dog Minster will walk the 26.2 mile route around London’s major landmarks.

Lisa will take on her biggest and final trek in November, when she treks 100km across the Sahara Desert.

After falling ill with a serious health condition four years ago, Lisa wants to show people that life doesn’t have to change after illness.

She said: “I’ve thankfully recovered but it was a tough few years.

“I want to show people that you can bounce back from illness and take on new challenges.”

Lisa will be raising money for The Prince’s Trust, a charity she says she has seen help so many young people achieve their dreams.

“I have experienced first hand the impact The Prince’s Trust can have on the lives of young people.

“They build their confidence and help create the entrepreneurs of tomorrow,” Lisa said.

Zena said Lisa is not someone who does things by halves and was keen to join her on her fundraising journey.

Zena, who was born partially sighted and became registered blind three years ago, found life very difficult before her guide dog Minster came into her life.

“Minster has allowed me to get back to work as a psychotherapist and play therapist - a job I love - and get back to exercising and meeting up with friends.

“Having him means having independence. That’s why I want to raise as much money as possible for Guide Dogs so that other blind and partially sighted people can reap the benefits of having one of these wonderful animals by their side,” Zena said.

The women are holding a Charity Curry Night at Sunderban Restaurant on Wind Street, Ammanford on Tuesday, July 4 in hopes to fundraise as much as possible before the treks.

Tickets are available from 07972 243849.
