Lifesaving equipment has been installed at a sporting facility in Ammanford, thanks to local businesses.

Last summer, SFS and TRJ Ltd teamed up to host Super Fun Saturday’s fundraising event to raise money for defibrillators in Ammanford and the surrounding area with a life-saving machine now accessible at Ammanford Cricket Club.

SFS HR manager Ryan Jones said: At an SFS fundraising committee meeting we decided that £2,900 of the amount which we had raised would go towards a defibrillator for Penygroes Welfare Hall and also Ammanford Cricket Club because that is where our annual fundraising event is held.

“A training session took place at the cricket club on Saturday, May 20 and was hosted by Cariad.”

The businesses are teaming up once again this year to host the Super Fun Saturday event, which is set to take place on June 24.

A new addition to this year’s event is a cake baking competition with a £50 voucher up for grabs for first place in the best adult cake category and best cake in the 12 years old and under category.

All cakes must stick to the ‘summer in the park’ theme and will be donated to the raffle after they have been judged and tested by the Mayor of Ammanford and a judging panel.

Entrants need to attend the event with their cakes at 2pm and then judging begins at 3pm.

As well as the bake-off, the charity cycle ride is returning and this year two distances are on offer.

Sponsor forms are available from SFS headquarters, TRJ, CCTAL Ammanford College and the South Wales Guardian office.

Ryan added: “Last year we managed to increase our fundraising effort to over £5,000 which went towards two defibrillators.

“We are looking for more organisations to get involved in the event with a stall.”
