Shocking footage of a motorist driving across a pedestrian crossing onto a hectic road in Ammanford has gone viral.

The video was captured by a driver parked by Wilko and posted to a Facebook group which highlights bad parking and driving in the town.

The driver is understood to have driven into the car park using the pedestrian crossing on Ffordd William Walker before leaving the same way moments later.

The incident may be been caused due to the crossing having moved last month to where the junction used to be for the town’s car park – opposite the Wilko store.

The video owner posted the video onto the social media group and stated that the driver “drives up to the toilet block, does a three-point turn and drives back out. Pedestrians everywhere”.

Since the video was posted online on May 8, it has received over 150 shares and has been watched by over 11,500 viewers.

Facebook users have been quick to defend the driver on the confusing mishap.

One commented: “Just remember the turning had been there for years. When there's no sign saying no turning you can see how some just assume nothing’s changed especially if you’re not a frequent visitor.”

Another added: "Seeing as the entrance has been there for many years, an elderly person or someone distracted with something on their mind could easily make this mistake.

"I blame the planners for not putting a bollard there to prevent someone making this mistake or abusing the system.

"Probably the same planners that originally put a zebra crossing there instead of a pelican crossing and also a few years ago put a mini roundabout on Pontamman Road at the junction to Maes-Y-Coed, which they later had to remove after it caused a few accidents and near misses."
