Plans for a Domino’s Pizza to open in Ammanford have been given the go ahead.

The fast food chain lodged a planning application to Carmarthenshire County Council in February to change the use of 9 Cross Inn Buildings, College Street from a Class A1 retail into a Class A3 food and drink unit including a seating area.

The American pizza restaurant, which has stores in Llanelli and Carmarthen, stated in the proposal that the business “will encourage the beneficial reuse of a commercial unit within Ammanford town centre by creating jobs and reducing vacancies in the frontage and wider area”.

The site has been vacant for over three years and the application stated that Domino’s Pizza would enhance the attractiveness of Ammanford and “contribute positively positively towards the centres overall vitality and viability”.

The full planning permission published by Carmarthenshire County Council states that the reasons for approval are due to the interest of the public amenity.

The report reads that the decision to grant planning permission has been taken in accordance with Section 38 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004.

Conditions of the approval set up by the planning department include that the restaurant is limited between the hours of 9am and 11pm Monday to Sunday including Bank Holidays and that the level of sound emitted from machinery associated with the development “should not exceed the existing background sound level”.

Josh Speers, spokesperson for Domino’s, said:“We are delighted that our application has been approved and we are very much looking forward to bringing fresh, oven-baked pizza to homes in Ammanford.

"Work on the new store will begin very shortly and we’re hoping to open the store in the Summer.

"The new store will create around 25 new jobs for local people, including trainee managers, pizza makers, customer service representatives and delivery experts. Details of how to apply for jobs will be announced in the coming weeks.”
