Today sees Ammanford Jobcentre host its Be Your Own Boss event and one local couple is urging people who are looking to turn to self-employment to go along.

The free information day, which runs from 10am to 2pm will offer support and advice from many different organisations including Business Wales, Business Sense, Enterprise Mentoring, JCP, PRIME Cymru and the Prince's Trust - as well as the chance to meet some inspiring local business people.

Craig and Sara Hoskins-Davies are urging people to head to the Park Street Jobcentre after they were helped by staff to set up their own business.

Sara said: "We moved to the area four year ago after my work contract had come to an end and my partner Craig was made redundant.

"We were both in contact with the job centre and my husband approached them about setting up his own business. Craig was offered courses to give him confidence and learn everything there is to know about becoming self-employed.

"In 2014 he set up his own business Mountain Cottage Supplies he started small making some fence panels and from that it moved onto rustic garden furniture.

"I always wanted to set up my own café and from the success of Craigs business I bought a mobile catering van. Now I also run my own business, Mountain Cottage catering on Cwmaman Road.

The couple said it has not been easy and they have had to put a lot of hard work into making both businesses work but they wouldn't change it for the world.

Sara added: "We are no longer making a loss and both businesses continue to grow.

"I would encourage anyone thinking of stepping into the world of self-employment to give it a go, it worked for us."
