An Amman Valley family centre which offers a safe and welcoming environment for young families has received a £1,000 donation from the Swansea Bay branch of internet-based retailer Amazon.

Garnant Family Centre, a registered charity based at the Maes y Bedol estate, aims to encourage and support families with a schedule of courses, family fun days and outdoor activities. The organisation also provides families with a location to spend quality time together.

The donation will be used to host fun and interactive sessions for families within the community such as circus skills, an animal petting zoo and music with Bongo Clive.

Elaine James, from Garnant Family Centre, said: “I’d like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Pat and the team for their lovely donation which has allowed me to plan an exciting programme of family sessions for the rest of the year.

“We’ve got lots of fun activities planned over the next few months.”

Members of Amazon’s Swansea Bay team visited to centre to meet the team and find out a bit more about the activities they have planned for local families.

Pat Faulkner, General Manager of Amazon’s Swansea Bay site, added: “Garnant Family Centre plays an important role in the local community and is a great source of support for families in the area with young children.

“The team at Amazon in Swansea Bay is keen to encourage the development of our young people and we were pleased to be able to help the centre host an exciting programme of activities which I know the children who use the centre are going to love.”

Amazon regularly supports charities in the area having recently made donations to charities such as Carmarthen Breakthro’, LATCH Children’s Cancer Unit and the Play and Leisure Opportunity Library.

The family centre offers drop-in sessions every Monday and Tuesday from 9am until 2.30pm and every Wednesday from 9am until 12pm. There is also a dads group held on Wednesdays from 12pm until 2.30pm.
