Ammanford nursery school is celebrating a milestone year in 2017.

Ysgol Feithrin Rhydaman turns 65 on Monday, January 16 and the school will mark the occasion with a special party involving school children and staff.

As part of the celebrations the school is also looking for old photos from past pupils which the school will publish on their website.

Acting headteacher Nia Phillips, who has worked at the school for 25 years, said: "We are calling on the people of Ammanford to bring their old photos to the school which we will scan and give back. They will be used on our website for people to enjoy and see how the school has changed over the years.

"I have seen a number of children come and go and now I find myself teaching the next generation of children, whose parents have now become grandparents."

Later this month the school will also welcome an artist to make an anniversary collage for the school which will see the pupils involvement.

Teacher Nerys Williams said: "We have a few things lined up to celebrate the milestone. We are the only nursery school in Carmarthenshire so it seemed right that we should celebrate it."

The school opened in 1952 and currently has 79 pupils educated in both Welsh and English streams.

On Monday, January 16 the school pupils will arrive at school in their best party outfits to help celebrate its birthday.

Ms Phillips added: "It will be a great day for the children and a chance for us to mark a very special day."
