AMMANFORD Town Council has confirmed that an annual festive event is returning to the town next month.

Young at Heart is an afternoon event organised specifically for residents from the Ammanford ward who are 70 years old and older.

During last week’s council meeting, councillors confirmed that the event will be going ahead this year after questions were raised by residents.

The event is being held on Thursday, December 8 at the Pensioners Hall in Ammanford and will take place from 1pm until 4pm with live entertainment and plenty of food and drink.

Mayor of Ammanford Alex Smith said: “It would have been a shame not to bring the event back this year.

“During the event guests receive a visit and a gift from Father Christmas and are also provided with food and drink all on behalf of the council.

“This is our seventh year and it is always a lovely afternoon.”

Councillor Carol Cadman told the Guardian that the event was always previously arranged by former clerk Miriam Phillips who sadly passed earlier this year.

Cllr Cadman said: “Miriam always used to organise this event and I am really happy we are continuing on with this event this year.

“For some residents in Ammanford it is the only time they get out and about over Christmas and they really look forward to the afternoon.”

The council not only organise the afternoon festivities but also help resident arrange transport for their guests.

Cllr Cadman added: “If anyone who is eligible would like to come to our Young at Heart event but is unable to get there for any reason, then you can get hold of your local councillor and we will pick them up in our own car and take them to and from the event.

“We would love to see as many people as possible so we help out to make sure everyone who wants to go can go.”

If you would like to attend the Young at Heart event then you will have to fill out a form which will be available from the South Wales Guardian office or contact your local Ammanford councillor.
