The team at Calan DVS Amman Valley have proudly received a donation of 30 welcome packs from the Buddy Bags Scheme for children entering their refuge.

The Buddy Bag Foundation supplies bags to children who find themselves in emergency care after a traumatic incident often arriving with only the clothes they are wearing.

The bags help make a difference by ensuring a child has the essential items they need for their immediate wellbeing and comfort including a toothbrush, hairbrush, pyjamas, socks, underwear, toiletries, a book, a photo frame and teddy bear.

The programme was developed in response to increasing requests from community agencies for supplies for children in emergency care who are without basic necessities.

Calan DVS Amman Valley is the first organisation in South Wales to benefit from the scheme.

A spokesperson of the Buddy Bag Scheme said: “Restoring a sense of safety and security in a child’s life during a traumatic time is one of the first steps to recovery. By providing these children with a few essential items, we can help make the transition into emergency care a little easier.

“To support children in this situation we have created the Buddy Bag to provide comfort when all else has been removed.

The team at Calan DVS Amman Valley said they were thrilled with the donation and believe the bags will benefit and comfort the children they support.
