AN AMMAN Valley council has teamed up with an non—profit organisation to launch lifesaving facilities in the community.

Cwmaman Town Council are working alongside the Big Lottery Awards for All Scheme and in partnership with Cariad charity to place four Automatic Emergency Defibrillators around Cwmaman.

Each of the four defibrillators will be mounted on the side of Garnant Stores, Cwmaman Community Centre, Clwb Godrer Mynydd Du and The Farmers Arms and will be accessible 24 hours a day in the event of an emergency.

Mayor of Cwmaman Kevin Madge said: “With these truly lifesaving pieces of equipment available in Cwmaman I hope that local residents and visitors feel safer in the knowledge that, in the unfortunate event of them needing them, that they are there to help.

“I thank Cariad for their ongoing support with this project and the Awards for All fund in supporting the Council in taking it forward.

“I would also like to thank the incredibly generous support from the owners of the buildings

where these units will be placed, they are truly expressing the best of community spirit”

Rob Venus, Cwmaman Town Council Community Development Officer added: “I hope that this is just the first step in making Cwmaman one of the well-provided AED communities in Wales.

“Through the awareness raised from this excellent start I hope that we can move forward as a community to place further lifesaving equipment, deliver more training and create a truly safe and supportive environment for everyone in Cwmaman”

The Hearts of Cwmaman project was launched last Thursday at Cwmaman Community Centre during a visit by the Older Peoples Commissioner for Wales, Sarah Rochira.

Sarah said: “It was a privilege to join the OAP group in Cwmaman to help launch this fantastic local project. I am sure that the defibrillators will prove to be vital assets to the local community and will go on to save lives of many residents and visitors to Cwmaman.”

As part of the project, training and awareness sessions will be provided for local residents which will cover the importance of AEDs, their operation and first aid related to their use.

The Town Council is calling for residents interested in attending these sessions to contact them by emailing Rob Venus on robvenus@cwmamantc.org.
