Plaid Cymru's Dafydd Tomos has triumphed at last night's Cilycwm by-election winning with 201 votes.

Seven candidates contested the election that saw 61 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballot.

Speaking after the result, County Councillor Dafydd Tomos told a packed Llanwrda Hall that "listening and delivering" would be his approach to working for local residents.

Councillor Dafydd Tomos said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many people over the course of the campaign and gaining a genuine appreciation of the things that matter to local residents.

"I'd like to thank residents who supported me, and all those who took part in the democratic process.  Cilycwm has a proud tradition of high turnouts.  A 61 per cent turnout in a council by-election is testament to how important residents take their democratic duty.

"Listening and delivering will be my approach to serving residents of the Cilycwm ward.  I will do my very best to be a strong advocate for north Carmarthenshire."

Jonathan Edwards MP added: "This was the first time Plaid Cymru has contested the council seat in Cilycwm, and I am delighted local residents have elected a true community champion in Dafydd Tomos.

"When I was meeting residents it was clear that Dafydd had gone the extra mile, quite literally, to speak with as many people as possible.

"The result is recognition of Dafydd's selfless efforts in the community for many, many years including, of course, his hard work in providing alternative solutions for Broadband in rural Carmarthenshire.

"I look forward to working more closely with Councillor Dafydd Tomos as he sets about delivering his promises to local residents."
