IT has been confirmed that Llandybie Post Office will remain open after it was given a closing date earlier in the year.

The post office situated on High Street in Llandybie was set to close its doors on Sunday, September 11 due to the resignation of the postmaster, but Post Office Ltd has confirmed that the business will remain open until further notice.

A spokesperson for Post Office LTD said: “The office was scheduled to close on September 11 following the resignation of the postmaster. However the postmaster has agreed to continue in post at the moment on reduced hours while we look for an alternative solution.”

Llandybie Post Office will now be open Monday to Friday from 8.30am until 5pm and 9am until 1pm on Saturdays. There will no long be a post office service on a Sunday.

The news has brought delight to residents of Llandybie who were unhappy about the potential closure of the post office.

A spokesperson for Llandybie Community Council said: “This is great news that the post office will remain open and has brought a positive outlook for the future.

“Llandybie is one of the largest villages in Carmarthenshire and residents from all over come to use the facilities. It would be a shame if it was to close.”

Carmarthenshire East and Dinefwr MP Jonathan Edwards was appealing for a meeting with Post Office LTD regarding the closure before the change of decision.

Mr Edwards said: “It is imperative that post office services continue to be available in the Llandybie community.”
