TYCROES RFC held an official opening for the new changing room extension last week.

The opening ceremony was carried out by WRC president Dennis Gethin OBE and WRC chairman Gareth Davies.

The project has been made possible by the support received from Llanedi Community Council, and grant funding from WREN’s FCC Community Action Fund, CWM Environmental Ltd, the Welsh Rugby Union and Mynydd y Betws Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund.

The scheme was given a huge boost by a cash injection of a £50,000 grant from WREN, a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, conservation and heritage projects from funds donated by FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Tycroes RFC would like to thank CWM Enviromental Ltd for their £20,000 grant from the company’s fund. This programme for deserving projects in Carmarthenshire is also made possible through the Landfill Communities Fund.

A club facilities grant of £15,000 from the WRC and the £10,400 from Mynydd y Betws Wind Fram Community Benefit Fund were also secured.

Clwb Rygbi Tycroes RFC Chairman Meirion Powell thanked Llanedi Community Council for their ongoing support and also Karen Bennet of Poppies Florist, for sponsoring the team’s kit.

Extending the changing rooms is the first phase of Tycroes RFC’s long term plan to provide a multi-use games area facility and nature walk for use by the local community including schools and sporting organisations.

The construction work was carried out by local firm HRW Contracting Ltd.

Tycroes RFC kick off the 2016/17 season this Saturday, September 3 with a home game against local rivals Pontarddulais RFC at 2.30pm.
