CWMAMAN Town Council has announced the launch of its new project which seeks to break down barriers and build meaningful community relationships between the young and older residents in the Carmarthenshire area.

Gen-erate is a scheme which is going to be processed through the delivery of shared experiences, workshops and community focused projects between 11 to 18-year-olds and residents over 55-years-old.

The Council has been granted £3,900 from the Dyfed Powys Police Commissioners Fund, in partnership with the communities local PC Stephen Morris.

Cwmaman Town Council would also like to express thanks to the organisaitons that have stepped forward to be involved in the delivery of the project. These include are CYCA, Amman Valley Men’s Shed, Cwmaman Youth Council and the Carmarthenshire 50+ Project.

The projects currently planned include woodturning and woodworking, bicycle repair and maintenance, a digital café and an arts, crafts and creative workshops.

Mayor of Cwmaman Cllr Kevin Madge said: “Every member of our community is important and each and every one of them has skills to share with those older or younger than them.

“We hope that this project will give people the opportunity to not only learn from each other but to learn about each other. I look forward to attending some of the workshops myself and to meeting with the residents that come along”

Rob Venus, Cwmaman Town Council Community Development Officer, said: “We see these workshops as the start of something bigger that will not only allow our residents to build relationships across the generations, but the start of a series of community activities that will benefit both this and future generations of local residents.

“One example of this is the bicycle maintenance project. It is our intention for this to develop into a regular community activity which will provide affordable and healthy transport to those that might otherwise be unable to afford it; the bikes we repair will be given to those that need them”

If anyone would like to suggest any other workshops that we could work together to deliver then please contact our Community Development Officer Rob Venus.
