A TUMBLE grandfather who was stranded in the Caribbean for nearly 10 weeks after an accident has been reunited with his family.

Clive Rees was on holiday with his wife Sylvia celebrating their 65th birthday when he was injured in a car crash in Barbados on the second day of their holiday.

He was treated in intensive care unit in hospital after developing pneumonia and breathing difficulties.

His heartbroken family were left distraught after originally being told they faced a £65,000 bill to bring the pensioner home as he was not permitted to return home on a commercial flight.

Last month we reported that daughter Tracy, who has been campaigning to raise money since the accident which happened on May 13, found out that her father could fly home business class with doctors on flight.

After ten weeks of heartbreak and fundraising, Clive is now in hospital in South Wales after a gruelling 10 weeks.

Tracy said: “When we managed to get the fee down to £16,000 we were ecstatic and really pleased.

“But after the help of our solicitor and the doctors in Barbados, we managed to overturn the insurance company’s decision.

“I had a phone call on July 15 off my brother who had been with my dad for the 10 weeks and he told me that they found a way to air lift my dad to Prince Phillip hospital.

“Dad is so happy to be back home after his experience. He is still not 100 per cent, but he is much happier back home where he belongs.”

The family who managed to raise £12,000 to get Clive home have stated that if anyone who donated wished to take their money back then there is no problem.

Tracy said: “We understand the money is no longer needed for the original circumstances but now we are looking at getting equipment for when Dad gets home as adaptions need to be made.

“The community have been extremely supported with organising fundraising events and there’s still an event this month, which will now celebrate dad coming home.”
