THERE’S a patter of feet of all sizes hot footing it to the Botanic Gardens on May 21.

It’s all part of a fun-packed family day planned by Carmarthenshire Council’s fostering team celebrating fostering fortnight.

The action packed day running from 10 to 2pm includes a variety of activities for children and families of all ages to enjoy.

There’s a Jamba Drama Session with Michelle McTernan the actress from Stella, playful walks designed about the spectacular gardens, “Actif Story Sessions; the Tenovus choir to enjoy and Carmarthenshire Therapy dogs to smooth and cuddle.

There will also be arts and crafts sessions with Splatt Cymru, face painting, a host of prize competitions and photo opportunities with Carmarthenshire’s loveable fostering mascot, Cal the Bear, and a full size Tardis to enable “out of this world” photo experiences.

County executive board member for children’s services Cllr Gareth Jones said the fostering teams were to be commended for organising the fun-packed family day.

He said: “This is open to all families whether fostering or not and especially those who might be thinking of fostering. Many people think about fostering but falter over taking that first enquiring step seeking answers to what might be involved.

“This is wonderful opportunity to go along and join the county’s fostering community who are spreading the word that now is the time to care and now is the time to foster."

The walk times are from 12-2pm with a goody bag for all participants but there will be host of activities and much action from 10am and the gardens themselves offer acres of space to chill and relax and take in some spectacular sights.

The county’s fostering service assistant team manager, Sue John Evans, said: “Foster carers come from all walks of life. We have many long term, foster carers who will vouch that fostering can be an extremely rewarding career and lifestyle choice. We would love those interested to join us on the walk and discover informally all about the tremendous rewarding job fostering can be.

“Carmarthenshire’s fostering community is more than 200 strong. We desperately need more carers. The more the merrier”
