A GORSLAS performer is due to take centre stage at Wales Millennium Centre this summer.

Aled Rees, 29, has landed the lead role as Lord Llewellyn in the musical I Merlin.

I Merlin tells the tale of the Mabinogion legend while taking the audience on a beguiling and enchanting journey, narrated by the charismatic Merlin himself.

Aled said: “I’m very excited and privileged to have been cast as the leading role of Lord Llewellyn in this new and unique musical, which will premiere in the Wales Millennium Centre this July.

“I have performed in various shows and concerts throughout the years.

"However, this has to be the greatest opportunity I have ever had, working with such professional individuals.

“I Merlin is such a magical and passionate musical and tells the much-loved Mabinogion legend, which I loved as a child.

"Not only do I get to work with an amazingly talented cast but I also get to work with a great composer, Katherine Cole, and an exceptional director, Ieuan Rhys.”

Beauty and innocence, curses and wizardry, love, intrigue, murder and magic all play their part in this exciting new musical theatre production.

It features an enchanting new modern musical score with a libretto by Jane King by composer Katherine Cole, libretto by Jane King and the direction of Ieuan Rhys.

The exploration of Celtic myth through modern music and libretto in I Merlin can be seen on July 9 and 10 at the Weston Studio in the Wales Millennium Centre.
