A VULNERABLE Ammanford man who admitted possessing more than 50 indecent images of children has been spared a prison sentence.

Kieran John Evans, of Wern Ddu Road, appeared at Llanelli magistrates court for sentencing having admitted possession of 52 Category C images and two Category B images at an earlier hearing.

Indecent images of children are categorised on a scale from A to C, Category A images are the most serious.

District Judge David Parsons heard that Evans, aged 30, had been placed on the sexual offenders register for five years following his conviction on December 17.

Evans, said Judge Parsons, was a “vulnerable member of society” unable to work due to physical issues and learning difficulties. There had been no previous convictions and Evans had shown remorse and “insight” regarding his actions.

And while a successful application from prosecutor Sian Vaughan for the computer equipment used during the offence to be destroyed was granted, defending solicitor Laura Sherwood told the Judge that Evans was able to use computer equipment at his home which children could also access.

Looking to reduce the risk of further offending, Judge Parsons subjected Evans to a two-year community service order and a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

The order sees Evans unable possess any computer, smartphone or device capable of recording and storing images without notifying his monitoring police officer of its acquisition within three days.

He must also not use any device capable of recording or storing images unless it has the capacity to retain and display the internet history and must not delete the history records. Evans must also make the device available on request for inspection by a police officer.

The community service sees Evans subject to a supervision requirement that involves attending regular appointments with a responsible officer.

Ensuring that Evans, who must also pay costs of £85 and £60 victim surcharge, understood the orders , Judge Parson told him that he must comply or that he would go to jail.
