CAMPING in style may become a fixture of the Amman Valley after a planning application was submitted for a new leisure development.

The application, submitted to Carmarthenshire Council last week, hopes to see a holiday site created at land in Garnant featuring camping pods.

The wooden pods would see “Glamping”- that’s luxury camping - introduced at Globe Land, Dynevor Road.

Applicant N Stone hopes to erect nine, oval, wooden pods plus a communal wash rooms and toilets and office as part of the camp site, which will be within walking distance of Garnant village.

The design of the pods, a type of chalet, would be low profile finished in timber cladding with a curved roof design. The

proposed communal block takes its design cues from the pods.

In the application to planners, agents David Richards Design Ltd state that the proposed development “endeavours to exploit the potential of a vacant site, to provide a quality holiday letting facilities to promote tourism within the county” with the scheme enhancing the surrounding environment both visually and economically.

The report adds that the site would promote nearby tourist attractions including Carreg Cennen Castle, Garnant Golf Club and Dinefwr Park.

Camping pods have become popular recently as more and more people opt for “Staycation” holidays in the UK.

Glamping has also become popular as people seek a more luxurious way of camping by taking advantage of furnished, heated wooden units rather than tents.
