GREEN fingered residents of the Gwendraeth Valley are being given the opportunity to grow their own fruit and vegetables while getting fit, saving money and making new friends.

The would-be gardeners are being given the chance to apply for a plot at the community run Llannon allotments offering them a chance to produce their very own produce.

There are a number of plot sizes available, with 60 square metres being the most widely available. Larger plots can be provided if required.

Llannon Community Allotment Group secretary, Phil Snaith said, “Every season we have a few plots available, and we welcome keen gardeners to our peaceful, attractive and very productive acre.

“Those who might consider taking a plot on for season 2017 should also get in touch."

The allotment site in Llannon was developed in 2012, and transformed an acre of former pasture land into a community allotment which boasts 34 plots and an orchard.

There is also a sustainable water supply on site and the team have created a wetland area for wildlife.

Access to the allotments is also easy for all users.

The project was made possible thanks to grants from the lottery, Carmarthenshire County Council, Llannon Community Council and Keep Wales Tidy.

The Llannon Community Allotment Group (LCAG) is a not for profit community group run completely by a committee on a voluntary basis.
