CARMARTHENSHIRE’S bus users are being warned to be prepared for possible disruptions ahead of bad weather this winter.

Schoolchildren and public transport users are being reminded to wrap up warm for journeys as the weather turns colder as well as being aware of potential travel problems during bad weather.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s passenger transport unit has warned that the onset of winter can impact of travel arrangements and is urging parents to be aware of the issues regarding school buses.

The authority’s Home to School/College code of conduct for pupils using school transport states that in cases of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, there may be temporary alterations to the transport provided.

In some circumstances it may not be possible to operate a route at all, or to serve only part of the route.

Parents are being reminded that, in cases where a school bus route is forced to cease operating due to the weather, those that choose to take their children to school themselves will also be responsible for ensuring the youngsters are able to get home at the end of the day.

Public transport users may also face delays or cancellations during severe weather and are urged to check the Traveline Cymru website or follow the Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Executive board member for transport Councillor Hazel Evans said: “Parents and pupils need to be aware that there may be cancellations or delays to school transport during times of bad weather, and to make sure they dress accordingly. The same applies to users of public transport.

“With winter weather on its way, I would encourage people to sign up to the council’s social media services for instant updates on disruptions to all council services.”

For instant updates on school transport disruptions, visit the council’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

The council website is also kept up-to-date with any weather disruptions.
