This week’s edition of the ITV show Helimeds is to feature the Wales Air Ambulance rescue of a German motorcyclist involved in a road collision on the A40 near Llandovery.
The fly-one-the-wall documentary show follows the missions of the Wales Air Ambulance crews as they attend incidents across the country.
Biker Jurgen Fauth received treatment after suffering a concussion in a collision with a trailer and the crew faced the additional challenge of communicating with German-speaker Jurgen, as they tried to establish his coherency following the head injury.
The episode also features the story of farmer Rhys Lewis, who was pinned to the ground by a falling tree in a freak accident near Machynlleth in April 2014.
Rhys, who was felling trees with his father, was rescued after he was crushed by a tree that split unexpectedly, fracturing his back.
Rhys said: “I turned my back and started to run away, and the next thing I knew, I was thrown to the ground. I knew straight away there was something seriously wrong.”
The episode also follows the progress of a group of new recruits for the air ambulance, as doctors and critical care practitioners are put through their paces in a series of training exercises in preparation for joining the service.
The episode – the second in the new series - will be shown on Monday, September 7, at 8pm on ITV Cymru Wales.
