A LLANDYBIE family have raised over £2,000 for the British Heart Foundation following a pool tournament in memory of their son who passed away from a heart condition.

Malcolm and Julie Lilburn held the tournament at the Golden Grove pub in Llandybie where a memorial shield and trophies were up for grabs.

Born with Down's syndrome, 25-year-old James was a very popular figure in Ammanford, particularly through his work at iSmooth cafe on College Street and STEPS - Supported Training and Employment Project – which offer opportunities for People with Learning Difficulties.

Dad Malcolm said: “We wanted to so something special to remember James and held a pool tournament in the local village.

"James loved playing pool and we thought that this was a special way of remembering him. We all miss him so much.

"The event has raised over £2,000 so far with donations still coming in and we would like to thank everyone who helped and supported on the day.”

Jayne Lewis, BHF Cymru’s Fundraising Manager added, “I would like to thank Malcolm and Julie for organising an event in memory of James and also to everyone who came to support the day.

"It was a wonderful event and family and friends had worked so hard to get raffle and auction prizes.

"Heart and circulatory disease is Wales’ single biggest killer.

"Across Wales thousands of people are already helping us to fight for every heartbeat as fundraisers and volunteers."
