A former child-care student told police she hoped their children died of cancer when she was arrested for disorderly behaviour following a late-night lovers' tiff.

Elizabeth Smith, aged 18, was confronted by two officers after police received reports of a disturbance in the street between a male and female shortly after midnight on June 17.

When PC Tipping and PC Bevan arrived at New Road, Ammanford, they saw Smith hurling a tirade of foul-mouthed abuse at her boyfriend.

Prosecutor Sharon Anderson told Llanelli court that Smith was "clearly intoxicated".

Smith was spoken to by the officers with PC Bevan repeatedly telling her to calm down. Smith responded with a torrent of abuse.

Smith was arrested for being drunk and disorderly in a public place, but a struggle ensued and the two officers were forced to put her on the floor.

"The officers had to take her to the ground because she was struggling violently," Ms Anderson said.

Smith, of 21e Wind Street, was eventually placed in a police vehicle and taken to Llanelli police station.

En route to the station, she continued to abuse the officers and told them: "I hope your kids die of cancer."

She then spat on PC Tipping who was driving the patrol car, showering his head and face in spittle.

Smith the leaned forward between the front seats before turning to spit in PC Bevan's face.

Smith continued to abuse the officers for the remainder of the journey.

Kate Williams, defending, told the court that Smith had fully admitted the offences at the police station.

"She was very drunk on the night in question and was in quite an emotional state following an argument with her boyfriend," said Ms Williams.

"She apologies for her behaviour."

Smith admitted two charges of assaulting a police officer and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

The case was adjourned for sentencing.
