Ammanford Fairtraders received a heroes’ welcome after walking 115 miles to Bristol.

Phil Broadhurst, David Davies, Sam Everest and Clare Pilborough kicked off their walk on Friday, June 26 stopping at Fair Trade towns, schools, shops and cafes along the way, arriving at the International Fair Trade Towns conference in Bristol on Friday, July 3.

The walkers were supplied with food and drink along the way by local Co-Operative stores, and were able to soothe aching feet with Fairtrade Foot Lotion donated by LUSH.

They walked through both pouring rain and blazing sunshine, but their spirits always remained high.

Walk organiser, Phil Broadhurst said, "The walk went perfectly. It was a week of us being inspired by others, and hopefully others being inspired by us.

“All across South Wales we met people who are working to help people around the world get a better, fairer, standard of living and quality of life. From school children to Oxfam shops to community activists; all committed to promoting the ideals of Fair Trade.

“We were then able to share what we had seen with delegates from Fair Trade Towns from across the world, including some from Sweden who told us about a similar walk some of their campaigners had done, dressed in banana suits!"

The group's next walk will be a single-day walk from Haverfordwest to St David's, and anyone who is interested in joining the walk should contact Phil Broadhurst on 01269 596933 or via the walkers' facebook site, www.facebook.com/fairtradewayswales which also hosts an archive of photos and blogs from the walk.
