AN AMMANFORD dad has been overwhelmed by the generosity of family and friends who are helping to pay for his alternative therapy in Spain as he continues his fight against cancer.

Andrew Davies, 51, was diagnosed with colon cancer just over a year ago and last August he underwent a major operation, followed by intense chemotherapy sessions.

However Andrew – a well-known cameraman – was later given the devastating news the cancer had spread.

“We decided that Andrew could not go through chemotherapy again. So we started looking at alternative therapies,” said Andrew’s wife Llio.

Andrew began attending sessions in Llandybie ran by the Old Mill Foundation who provide holistic therapy and counselling for cancer sufferers and their family.

“Mill House is just fantastic,” said Llio.

“They make you feel relaxed with massage and alterative therapy and also provide lots of useful information.”

The couple began looking at different types of treatment in Wales, but unfortunately the particular type of treatment they were looking for was not available on the NHS.

Following extensive research the couple came across the Budwig Centre in Malaga, Spain which provides intensive treatment after chemotherapy.

“They believe your body has been through a great deal of stress after chemo so they provide alternative drug treatment with vitamins to strengthen the immune system,” said Llios.

“Andrew is a very sceptical person, but he is amazed by the place. It is a fusion between medication and modern technology.”

Andrew is currently undergoing treatment in Malaga and his friends and family are showing their support by organising a concert to continue funding the 51-year-olds treatment.

The concert is set to take place at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman on July 10 at 7.30pm.

The evening of entertainment, presented by Dai Jones, Llanilar, will feature Rhian Morgan, Ffion Jones Summer, a united choir with members from Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman and Ysgol Teilo Sant, Dawnswyr Penrhyd, Towy Valley choir Bois y Castell and accompanist Gareth Wyn Thomas.

Tickets, priced at £10, are available from Nia Clwyd on 01558 824010 / 07970 791662, Ar Gered in Ammanford or Siop y Pentan, Carmarthen.

“Andrew and I have been overwhelmed by the support from family and friends. They have hosted a number of events including a clothes swap, chilli evening and strawberry tea all to help fund Andrew’s treatment,” said Llios.

As well as funding towards Andrews treatment, donations will also be given to The Old Mill Foundation, Llandybie and Macmillan Cancer.
