A SELF-TAUGHT artist has described the thrill of seeing her work splashing colour throughout South Wales.

Cara Gibson, from Station Road, Tirydail, Ammanford, has seen her work leaping from success to success this year.

Throughout June, her work adorned the walls of the Welsh Assembly’s Senedd, in Cardiff, while she also produced a series of paintings for her daughter’s school.

Cara is also set to become artist in residence at the White Hart pub in Llandeilo.

And to top it all off, she has also been asked to put together a bid for a solo exhibition at the Cardiff Bay, Senedd, home of the Welsh Government.

Cara’s dragon painting, Y Ddraig Goch ar Glyder Fach, was entered into a competition and the mum of four was overjoyed to hear she was one of ten artists chosen to exhibit at the Senedd.

Following the week-long exhibition, Cara was approached to put on a solo exhibition.

“I was overwhelmed to hear the news,” said Cara.

“I’ve worked so hard over the years; this year really feels like it’s my time to shine.”

Carmarthenshire East and Dinefwr MP Jonathan Edwards has been backing her bid for an exhibition at the centre of Wales’ political hot seat.

“There is a two-year waiting list to get your exhibition shown at the Senedd, but it gives me plenty of time to create more Welsh-themed paintings on the myths and legends of our beautiful country,” said Cara.

She has also produced four pieces of work, one each depicting the four seasons, for her daughter’s school, and the role of artist in residence at the White Hart provides her with a sense of homecoming.

“This is quite an honour for little old me,” said Cara. “Growing up in Llandeilo, I feel so happy to be showing my work at the White Hart.

“This year really does just keep getting better and better in my beautiful world of art.”
