FOLLOWING a packed fun day at Ammanford cricket ground, organisers of the event - Solid Fuel Services – have donated the proceeds to two charities.

On May 23 hundreds of locals turned out as SFS hosted a day full of fun and entertainment for the whole family.

Revellers enjoyed relaxed on the green and watched the cricket match between Ammanford and Pontarddulais with the youngsters getting stuck into the fun of the balloon modelling, face painting and fire safety demonstration.

The £2,886 raised on the day has been split between Ryan4Leukaemia and the CCTAL Uganda Hospital Appeal.

Ammanford fundraiser Ryan Davies gratefully received a cheque for £1,443 from SFS founder John Garland and Ryan Jones, HR Manager.

“This money will go a long way in providing more equipment for hospitals,” said Ryan.

“Just recently my charity was able to purchase new televisions to CDU and Ward One of Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli, where I was recently treated, the money spent on TVs has now been put back into the charity and more, thanks to the SFS team.

“Cardiff Heath hospital has requested new patient heat pads and this money will be a huge help in purchasing them.”

Next to receive a cheque for £1,443 was the Cyfle team at Ammanford’s Coleg Sir Gar.

Cylfe – a building skills apprenticeship scheme - in partnership with Carmarthenshire Construction Training Association (CCTAL) and Engineers for Overseas Development South West Wales, are currently fundraising towards a maternity ward project in Kachumbala, Uganda.

Once complete, the unit will have two labour suites, a 12-bed ward, plus offices and stores.

The scheme has seen apprentices from the college travel to Uganda to work amongst local tradesmen.

Receiving a cheque from John and Ryan, Cyfle regional manager Anthony Rees said the money will make a big difference to the project.

“The fun day was a huge success and the Uganda project will benefit massively from the generous donation,” said Anthony.

From the success of the fun day SFS are now looking at making the charity fun day an annual event.

“We are thankful to everyone who turned out on the day and those who helped make the day go without a glitch,” said John.

“Looking ahead we are also hoping to host a winter charity event, we’ll announce more news when the event is finalised.”
