A CAPEL Hendre man has been banned from driving after he was caught over the limit behind the wheel of a mobility car.

Brian Terrance Mitchell, of 4 Llys Lowen, pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared at Llanelli Magistrates Court.

Prosecuting, Sharon Anderson told the court that police stopped a black Kia Sportage on April 4 and carried out a roadside breath test.

“The test result was positive,” said Ms Anderson.

“Officers then arrested Mitchell and while at the station carried out a urine test which gave a reading of 157 milligrammes of alcohol in a 100 millilitres of urine. The limit is 107.”

Defence solicitor Grayson Tanner told the court that on the night in question the 63-year-old had been visiting a friend who was staying in a pub in Llanelli.

“When Mitchell arrived at the pub his friend was drinking in the bar,” said Mr Tanner.

“And unfortunately Mitchell made the decision to drink with his friend over a four-hour period.

“He totally expects what he did was wrong and is embarrassed about appearing in court today."

Since the incident took place Mitchell, who has a heart condition, has been forced to return his vehicle back to the mobility company.

Magistrates disqualified Mitchell from driving for 12 months, ordered him to pay £120 costs and a £85 victim surcharge.
