Jonathan Edwards, the newly-elected MP for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, dedicated his victory last night to Nurse Nesta Price, from Llandybie, and Irene Lloyd, from Brynaman.
The two Plaid Cymru stalwarts passed away in the days leading up to the election.
“Nights like this for Plaid Cymru are only possible due to the contribution of people like them,” said Mr Edwards.
Mr Edwards romped to victory with an increased majority of 5,599 after claiming 15,140 votes on a turnout of 70 per cent.
Labour’s Calum Higgins came second with 9,541 – the first time Labour has polled less than 10,000 votes in Carmarthen East and Dinefwr since the creation of the seat.
Conservative Matthew Paul picked up 8,336 votes while Ukip’s Norma Woodward earned 4,363.
