RUGBY legend Shane Williams made a guest appearance at Ammanford’s Lloyd Bank to support staff in their efforts to raise money for Children in Need.

The 38-year-old joined the team for a bikeathon to cycle 100 miles in opening hours.

“I’ve been banking here since I was 15 and I’m good friends with the staff so it was a real pleasure to be invited here and show my support,” said Shane.

The dad of two got in the saddle despite feeling the pinch after completing the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday, April 26, in a respectable time of 3.35.

“I must admit I was feeling a bit achy for a couple of days after the race,” he said.

“I am reasonably fit but running 26 miles certainly put me through my paces.

“If I was asked to come and support the team on Monday I don’t think I would have made it through the door.

“But it is a pleasure to be here and I wish them all the best in hitting their target.”

BBC Children in Need is the Lloyds Banking Group official Charity of the Year for 2015 and 2016 with staff across the UK aiming to raise at least £2million per year.

“This bike challenge has been a team effort,” said manager Wynne Thomas.

“So far we have raised more than £400 which is great.

“I can’t thank Shane enough for making an appearance today. It's a real boost for the charity, the team and the customers enjoyed it too.”

Branch charity co-ordinator, Emma Evans has more fundraising ideas up her sleeve.

“Today was the third event the bank has held – but we have more planned throughout the year,” said Emma.

“But if people cannot make it to the branch to donate personally they can visit Lloyds Bank website and there are really simple instructions on how to donate there.”

Lloyds' Wales Manger Lee Jones said: “This is a really exciting year for the company, we are celebrating our 250th year and are proud to be BBC Children In Need’s first ever principal partner.

“All the staff at our Ammanford branch are doing an amazing job raising money for such a brilliant cause.

“And it was fantastic that Shane made a guest appearance no doubt it really spurred the team on.”

The bike was donated by JT Supplements and Evolution Gym, Cross Hands.
