PLAID Cymru’s Carmarthen East and Dinefwr candidate Jonathan Edwards showed his support for Coleg Sir Gâr’s staff and students as he joined them at a protest on Wednesday to highlight a £2.5 million shortfall in funding for the coming year.

Mr Edwards, a staunch critic of austerity politics, said Carmarthenshire was being particularly affected by a “coalition of cuts”, and expressed concern for the way in which the London parties have promised further austerity.

“The cuts faced by Coleg Sir Gâr are further evidence of the harmful effects of austerity on our community,” he said. “I was proud to support the staff and students of Coleg Sir Gâr, who rightly suggest these cuts will limit the potential of our youth and their prospects in the future.”
