PRIMARY schoolchildren from Ysgol y Bedol had good reason to celebrate last week after winning the Best Welsh Advert competition - run by Radio Carmarthenshire.
A team of Year Five and Six pupils from six schools have been working with Radio Cymru DJ Marc Griffiths to create a 30-second separate Welsh and English advert to be played on the radio.
The aim of the competition is to promote the county’s indoor and outdoor markets in Ammanford and Llandeilo, Carmarthen, and Llanelli.
Ysgol y Bedol became king of the airwaves and won best Welsh advert. Penygaer primary school in Llanelli won best English advert.
The winners were announced in Llanelli market during the St David’s Day celebrations and the adverts have been running on Radio Carmarthenshire for the past week.
Also competing were Johnstown Primary School, Ysgol Dewi Sant, Swiss Valley school and Ysgol Llangadog.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member responsible for the markets, Cllr Jeff Edmunds, said: “This is the first year we have started this challenge for schools.
“As judges we were all very impressed with standard of the adverts and the creativeness and uniqueness of them.
“I would like to thank the pupils for their hard work and also the teachers for their support in creating these adverts.”
All adverts will be available to hear in Llanelli and Carmarthen indoor markets and on carmarthenshiremarkets.co.uk.
