A TALENTED Betws schoolgirl has a date to sing with Mickey Mouse at DisneyLand Paris this weekend after an Urdd performance won her a top prize.

Seven-year-old Cadi Lois Owen will be performing in a special concert to celebrate St David’s Day after she became a National winner at last year’s National Urdd Eisteddfod.

Cadi will travel to the resort tomorrow with her family, including brother Dion Celt, and will enjoy a host of activities as part of Disney’s St David’s Day celebrations.

Cadi, a Year Two pupil at Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman, won her place on the trip after coming first in the Under 8 solo competition and third in the Cerdd Dant at the National Urdd last year.

She is one of only four winners from across Wales who are off to Disney and is the youngest competitor to have been chosen to perform.

During the weekend she will perform at a special concert and also take part in the Disney parade.

The two day event celebrates all things Welsh and Mickey and Minnie join the fun by dressing in traditional costume.

Cadi, who has been busy practising hard for the concert, loves to sing and can often be found singing morning and night.

She said: “I’ll be singing Fi di’r Deinosor (I am the Dinosaur) in Paris and I have been busy practicing.

“I am looking forward to spending time with my brother Celt and Mami and Dadi.”

Aled Sion, director of the Eisteddfod, said: “We are very proud of the partnership that we have with Disneyland Paris.

“This is a brilliant opportunity for the young Urdd members to introduce our unique Welsh culture to an audience from across the world and to also take part in the spectacular Disney pre-parade at the end of the day – an unforgettable experience.”

Peter Welch is the vice-president of Disney Destinations International.

He said: “St David’s Day is one of the national days that we celebrate in Disneyland Paris, and it is great that we can work with the Urdd to get young performers of the highest calibre in our Welsh concerts.

“The park is a sea of red, white and green over the weekend, with Mickey and Minnie in their Welsh costumes – it is a great weekend to visit Disneyland!”
