A Tycroes Air Cadet has been appointed as the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet of Dyfed for 2015.

Cadet Warrant Officer Aled Davies received a distinctive sash with the badge of his appointment, which will last for one year, at an awards ceremony at the Ivy Bush Royal Hotel in Carmarthen.

The 18-year-old was appointed to the role after being nominated by cadet group leaders and the Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for Wales.

The post includes attendance with HM Lord-Lieutenant for Dyfed, The Hon Robin Lewis OBE CStJ, who acts as the Queen’s representative, at a number of official engagements, including remembrance events, Royal visits and parades.

Having been a part of 2475 (Ammanford) Squadron and No 3 Welsh Wing for over four years, Aled has established himself as one of the most experienced Air Cadets in his detachments.

Aled said: “I’ve seen previous cadets work hard and progress to be a Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet, I’m very proud to do it myself now. I’ve had a great time in the Air Cadets and it will continue with this.

“I’ve gained qualifications I didn’t know of and had experiences I wouldn’t have had otherwise.

"I would definitely advise anyone to become a cadet with their local unit.”

Aled has completed the RAF Cosford march for the last two years and gained a number of qualifications, including Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards and the Institute of Leadership and Management level three award.

Aled also volunteers for charities in the Amman Valley and has completed Peer Mentoring Level 2 and Disability Awareness training courses. He has also worked as a press officer for Tycroes Local Aid and is currently leading a petition to the Welsh Assembly to award funding to Mix Youth Club.
