Youngsters from Ysgol y Bedol and Ysgol Llangadog have been doing their bit to encourage residents to make the most of the county’s markets this St David’s Day.

The pupils have been creating adverts to promote market-shopping with Radio Cymru broadcaster Marc Griffiths.

Youngsters from six county primary schools have created an ad and the winning effort will be heard on Radio Carmarthenshire from March. They can also be heard inside Carmarthen and Llanelli market halls as well as on carmarthenshiremarkets.co.uk.

The adverts look to highlight what is on offer at the markets ahead of St David’s Day, including everything from cawl-tasting to face-painting.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member responsible for the markets, Councillor Jeff Edmunds, said: “Our indoor and outdoor markets in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Ammanford and Llandeilo sell everything from traditional Welsh costumes to fresh, local produce such as vegetables and meat to make your own Cawl as well as cheeses and breads, Welshcakes and bara brith. Or you could just take a break from shopping and go to one of the cafes for a bowl of warming cawl.”
