HAVE YOU got what it takes to become Ammanford’s Star Baker?

If you can make the perfect pie, make occasion cakes that are true showstoppers or have learnt how to banish a soggy bottom then sign up for search for Ammanford’s Star Baker on Friday, February 28.

Being held as part of the town’s Gwyl Ddewi Festival, local bakers are being asked to produce some tasty goods for chance of winning a £100 prize and the title of Star Baker.

There are six categories to choose from, tray bake, biscuits, bread, traditional Welsh cake, covered occasional cake and pies and pasties. You can choose one category or several and all you need to do once you’ve decided is contact the organisers for criteria and an application form.

All bakes must be taken to Quay Street on the day for judging to take place. There will be a £25 prize for each category winner and the victors from each section will then compete for the ultimate title.

To apply for a place you can either contact organisers via the Facebook page or by emailing fiona.wilkins@gmail.com but be quick, slots are limited and no entry will be allowed with prior application.

The baking show is just one of many events taking place in the two-day festival to help mark St David’s Day. As well as live music from Jac y Do, Llinos Belcher and Cor Persain Ladies Choir there will be entertainment from Statik, Jambori and Mercedes Lil Disco Movers and performances from local schools, Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman, Cor Ysgol Dyffryn and Cor Ysgol Bro Banw Choir.

There will be plenty of other activities including circus skills, arts and crafts, balloon twisting, craft market and a Welsh food market.
