A Towy Valley-based builders merchants has donated nearly £2,500 to charity after 76 staff members took on the gruelling Survival of the Fittest race last September.

Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest was a tough 10km urban assault course full of gruelling obstacles, which featured a giant slippery wall, an army assault course, and a mud run.

Staff members at LBS Builders Merchants from across all branches and divisions of the firm ran in what was a sheer test of endurance, guts and speed.

A spokesperson for the firm, which has branches in Ammanford, Llandeilo and Ystradgynlais locally said: “Running 10km can be hard enough, but combine that with energy sapping obstacles and you suddenly have an extremely gruelling challenge.”

On February 2, LBS staff members were pleased to present each of the five charities supported with a cheque for £2438.08.

The charities to benefit are, Cancer Research UK, Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales, Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre Swansea, British Heart Foundation Cymru and Macmillan Cancer Support.

LBS and its staff raise funds for local and national worthy causes throughout the year, through Payroll Giving, sponsorship and charitable giving.
