CARMARTHENSHIRE residents are being reminded that there will be changes to rubbish collections over the festive period.

Collections are taking place on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve as normal, however there will be no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day.

The holiday period means that collections which would normally have taken place on Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, will take place two days later than usual. So for example, if your collection is due on the Thursday it will now be picked up on Saturday.

Collections scheduled for Thursday, January 1, and Friday, January 2, will take place one day later than usual. If your usual collection day is Friday, your rubbish will now be collected on Saturday.

With all the eating and drinking over the Christmas and New Year period, much more rubbish is produced than usual and it is therefore vital that residents recycle as much as possible.

Plastic bottles, cans, cardboard packaging, wrapping paper and cards should all be placed in blue bags while unavoidable Christmas food waste such as turkey bones and vegetable peelings should go in green food bins ready for composting.

Glass banks should be used to recycle any glass bottles and jars.

The recycling centres in Wernddu, Llangadog, Trostre (Llanelli), Nantycaws (Carmarthen) and Whitland are closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Wernddu, Trostre (Llanelli), Nantycaws (Carmarthen) and Whitland will be open from 8.30am until noon and Llangadog 9am until noon on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and January 2.
