Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP Jonathan Edwards paid a Christmas visit to the Royal Mail sorting office in Ammanford on what was said to be the busiest day for the postal service.

Mr Edwards was at the sorting office at 7am this morning (Monday, December 15) to meet with staff as they sorted post before their daily rounds.

Royal Mail predicts that 700 million Christmas cards will be delivered over the festive season, with an additional 40 million people expecting items from their online purchases.

The last date for posting second class mail is Thursday, December 18, or Saturday, December 20, for first class mail. Special delivery items can be sent as late as Tuesday, December 23.

After meeting the staff and office manager, David Morris, the Plaid Cymru MP said the visit had given him a new appreciation for postal staff.

“Royal Mail estimates that 700 million Christmas Cards will be sent in the run up to the festive season with today predicted to be the busiest day," said Mr Edwards.

“On my visit I spoke with almost all of the staff on site and thanked them personally for their efforts all year round, but particularly for going the extra mile over Christmas.

“I enjoy visiting each year and always say that behind every stamp is a dedicated, first class team of workers who process, sort and deliver our mail.”
