SANTA'S mailbag may be a little light this year - especially when it comes to letters from Glanaman.

Residents have been left fuming after the post-box on Grenig Road disappeared without warning in the run-up to Christmas, forcing householders to trek to Cwmaman Road to send their festive cards and wish-lists.

One resident was stunned when he went to post his letters only to discover that the postbox had vanished.

“I use the postbox quite often,” said Mr Lewis.

“I was stunned when I went to post some letters and found that the postbox had gone.

"Now, if I want use a postbox, I have an extended walk to Glynderi Housing Estate and Cwmaman Road.

“I’m really disappointed that the Royal Mail did not have the courtesy to inform the residents in the area they had planned to remove the postbox.

“This will cause such an inconvenience for people who rely on the postbox, especially at this time of year when people are posting their Christmas mail.”

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “The postbox on Grenig Road was damaged so we removed it and will have it replaced as soon as possible.

“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience and in the meantime we would ask them to use the nearest alternative posting facilities in the area, including dropping off mail at any Post Office branch.

“There are adequate posting facilities within walking distance at 99 Cwmaman Road and Glynderi Housing Estate.

“Anyone who has concerns about their mail can contact our customer services team on 03457 740 740.”
