An Ammanford-based pharmacist on a mission to raise as much money as he could for a brave American youngster has smashed his original target and raised in excess of £1660.

Spencer Lawrence, who works at Margaret Street Pharmacy, aimed to raise £1000 to help four-year-old Hudson Lillystone, who was diagnosed with Pre B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in November 2013.

“I am astounded by how generous and supportive people have been,” said Spencer.

“When I first had the idea to start fundraising I had a figure of £500 in my head but set a target of £1000 as a stretch target.

“When I reached the £1000 I agreed to let my four-year-old and two-year-old daughters shave all my hair off.

“They enjoyed it greatly but I've had to hide the clippers just in case they think it would be a good idea to do it while I'm asleep.”

Spencer also completed Cheshire's notoriously difficult ToughMudder challenge carrying an injury from training which he really struggled with during the Survival of the fittest race in Cardiff.

“For Survival of the Fittest I ran the race dressed in an Iron Man morph-suit, in support of Hudson because when she goes for chemo she wears superhero costumes to help her in her fight," said Spencer.

“I had a great response from the crowd on the day but the suit was tough to run in - they say never run in something you haven't trained in but running round the streets of Ammanford dressed as Iron Man might have got me locked up.

"Hudson is currently fighting off pneumonia so our fingers are crossed she can overcome her latest battle."

People can still make dinations to the fund at the Ammanford pharmacy.
